I can't find the Netflix app in app stores

If you can't find the Netflix app in the App Store for iOS or the Google Play Store for Android, follow the steps below.

Make sure your device is Google Play Protect certified

The Netflix app may not appear in the Google Play Store if your device is not Google Play Protect certified. To check the certification status:

  1. Open the Google Play Store.

  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.

  3. Tap Settings> About.

  4. The certification status of your device is displayed under Play Protect Certification.

  • If your device is certified, please take itContact us for help.

  • If your device is not certified and Android 8.0 or higher is installed on the device, please contact the device manufacturer for assistance.

  • If your device is not certified and an Android version between 4.4.2 and 7.1.2 is installed on the device, please continue with the following steps.

Adjust or switch off parental controls

The Netflix app may be hidden due to parental controls in the Google Play Store. To change this setting:

  1. Open the Play Store app.

  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.

  3. Find and tap Settings> Family> Parental controls.

    • If Parental Controls Enabled is displayed, use the toggle to disable this setting. After installing Netflix, you can turn this setting back on.

    • If you see Parental Controls Disabled, continue with the following steps.

  4. Look for the Netflix app again.

If you're using a separate third-party parental control app, you may need to turn it off as well.

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps & Notifications.

  3. Tap See All Apps, then scroll down and tap the Google Play Store app.

  4. Tap Storage & Cache.

  5. Tap Clear Cache, then tap Clear Storage.

  6. Look for the Netflix app again.

Check Android version

These steps may vary slightly depending on the version or manufacturer. If you cannot determine which version of Android is installed on your device, please contact your device manufacturer for help.
  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Tap About phone or About tablet.

  3. Scroll down to the Android version.

For Android version 8.0 or higher, please contact the manufacturer of your Android device for help locating and installing the Netflix app.

For Android version 7.1.2 or lower, please continue with the following steps.

Install the app directly from Netflix

On some older Android devices that work with Netflix, the Netflix app cannot be downloaded from the Google Play Store. For these devices, a version of Netflix may be available for download directly from us.

To install Netflix from this page, an Android version between 4.4.2 and 7.1.2 is required on your device. For rooted or uncertified Android devices, it is not possible to download the Netflix app from the Play Store and Netflix may not work properly.

Complete the following steps on the Android device on which you want to install Netflix.

  1. Tap on Settings.

  2. Tap on Security.

  3. Check the box for Unknown sources: Allow installation of non-market apps.

  4. Tap OK to confirm the change.

  5. Tap here to download the Netflix app.

  6. Swipe down from the top of the screen to find the download.

  7. After the Netflix file is downloaded, tap the file, then tap Install.

  8. After installing the Netflix app, go back to the home screen and launch Netflix.

    After installing the app, perform steps 1 to 4 again to reset your setting.

iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

To download the Netflix app, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch must be running iOS 13.0 or later.

To check the version:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Scroll down and select General.

  3. Choose Info.

  4. The version number is displayed next to Software Version.

If you have an iOS version below 13.0 and have already downloaded the Netflix app, instructions on how to download an earlier version of Netflix can be found on Apple's support page.

If you're using an iOS version below 13.0 and haven't downloaded the Netflix app in the past, you'll need to use another device to watch Netflix.

If you have iOS version 13.0 or higher, continue with the troubleshooting below.

Adjust or deactivate restrictions

iOS from version 12.0

If Screen Time settings have been set on a child's device, you will be asked to enter your Screen Time passcode before changing these settings.
  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Screen Time.

  3. Select Content & Privacy Restrictions.

  4. Select iTunes & App Store Purchases.

  5. Choose Install Apps.

  6. Choose Allow.

  7. Start Netflix again.
