When will Tesla dominate the auto market?

Autoscout24 evaluation for 2020: Tesla dominates the search queries for electric cars

Autoscout24, according to Europe's largest online car market, has published its annual analysis of demand and supply on the platform. The VW Golf and the BMW 3 Series as well as the Mercedes C-Class were therefore the most popular models this year. The Tesla Model S dominated the electric car.

In the Autoscout24 analysis “Europe Report 2020” (PDF), the Golf made it to first place in the popularity ranking in every country evaluated - with one exception: In France, the Ford Mustang was able to push the Wolfsburg car to second place. If you take a look at the brands, Europe's car enthusiasts favor Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volkswagen.

The demand for the Golf is also reflected in the price development: in 2020 it cost an average of 16,422 euros across Europe, around 4 percent more than in 2019. The average asking price of the 3 Series BMW has increased even more: at 17,589 euros it cost 5 this year , 2 percent more than in the previous year. There was a decrease in the offer price at Europe's number three: The Mercedes C-Class cost an average of 24,780 euros in 2020, 1.4 percent less than in the previous year.

When it comes to electric cars, the US sedan Tesla Model S makes it to the top of the table almost everywhere in Europe. The exception here is again France, where the local small car Renault ZOE relegates the Californians to second place. In Germany, the most important car market in Europe, the Renault ZOE takes second place, followed by the small BMW i3. With the compact VW e-Golf, another German model has made it into the Autoscout24 popularity ranking in Germany. The Wolfsburg Stromer ranks fifth among the mid-range Tesla Model 3.
