Have you ever accidentally intimidated someone?
What are soft skills? A list as an overview.
The soft skills in the list can be divided into these three categories, but they overlap so that competencies from one area usually also require skills in another area. For example, a successful presentation also requires a certain degree of self-confidence and knowledge of human nature in order to be able to better assess the audience and react appropriately.
Soft skills that are explicitly required for work and career are in technical jargon Business skills called. The following properties are particularly in demand here:
Communication skills not only mean that you formulate your ideas in a particularly understandable manner, but also that you listen carefully to and understand others. Communication skills are probably one of the most desired and most important business skills and the basis for many other career-relevant characteristics.
You have charisma and people want to be around you because you have a certain attraction. Charisma is made up of inspiration, individuality, intellect, idealism and body language. So it's a complex trait that is hard to learn. Important tips, however, are that you are present - without pushing yourself to the fore, that you are sovereign - without being arrogant, and that you give your surroundings instead of yourself greatness. Because charismatics do not put themselves on the pedestal, but their environment and give their environment a positive feeling.
Resilience does not mean that you work 24/7 without complaining. Rather, it means that you can keep a cool head in stressful situations and can deal confidently with unforeseen events. This is the only way your employer can be sure that you are doing your job well. A good work-life balance, sport or some other kind of balance are important here in order to remain resilient in the job.
Put yourself in the shoes of others and understand their feelings is an important quality, especially for managers! In this way you can deal better with your fellow human beings and colleagues and understand how to avoid conflicts and misunderstandings. Empathy helps to achieve common goals faster.
"But that is not my area of responsibility" - say goodbye to this sentence. Most companies require you to be flexible. This means that you have to implement unforeseen changes and not think in rigid patterns.
Especially if you work internationally and maybe have to do with a different culture, it is important that you behave confidently here as well. You should at least be familiar with the local customs so as not to accidentally offend your counterpart.
A new job always requires a certain ability to adapt. This can concern a working method, a filing model or behavior. Perhaps you have already gained initial experience through previous internships, but it is important that you can adapt to your new environment and your new colleagues.
Your listeners hang on your lips, you skillfully incorporate a few laughs into your prese, but without losing focus - presentation skills are important to convey new concepts. These soft skills are also closely related to your communication skills.
Ability to work in a team
One of the most important business skills is the ability to work in a team. Your expertise is of no use to you if you cannot share it with your colleagues and they do not benefit from you and vice versa.
This is not about shooting your head through the wall, but rather about your powers of persuasion. Do you manage to convince and inspire others of your ideas and bring projects to a successful conclusion? Then you have assertiveness. But that also means that you don't just get your way, you can respond to objections and criticism.
